Bahrain Mirror: US President Donald Trump confirmed Washington imposed tariffs on imports of steel and aluminum, exempting Canada and Mexico temporarily. A 25 percent tax applies to steel imports, and 10 percent to aluminum brought into the US.
Trump signed the tariff order, ignoring warnings of a global trade war and protests by allies in Europe and at home.
Bahrain is one of the countries affected by the decision. Aluminum Bahrain (Alba) exports 120,000 tons of aluminum per year to the United States, according to the chairman of the company, Daij bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.
The Associated Press said that all countries affected by the tariffs are being invited to negotiate for exemptions, if they can address the threat their exports pose to the US, noting that the new tariffs will take effect in 15 days.
