Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini National Institute for Human Rights (NIHR) said that it continued to train members of the National Security Agency (NSA) (16 employees), as it organized for the second group of staff a workshop on the "Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment," presented by Dr. Mohammad Hammad Al-Hiti, Head of Public Law Department, Faculty of Law at the University of Bahrain.
The workshop tackled a number of themes, the most prominent of which were: Torture between the international vision and position of the Bahraini legislature, the International Convention Against Torture, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights' position towards torture.
This special training program for the NSA employees began in January and will continue until September 2018.
The National Security Agency is one of the most prominent state bodies involved in the torture of political dissidents that practiced extracting confessions under duress, and has been strongly criticized by international human rights organizations and United Nations bodies.
