Bahrain Mirror: The Fifth High Criminal Court of Appeals ruled against an appeal of a defendant sentenced to one year in prison among others over charges of placing a fake bomb in Bani Jamra, and sentenced to one year in prison for possession of explosives in his home.
The Public Prosecution had claimed that, in 2017, the defendant acquired and had possession of explosives, a mixture of chlorate and nitrocellulose, without a license issued by the Minister of the Interior, for a terrorist purpose.
According to the authorities, based on a report of an object simulating explosives located in the area of Bani Jamra on Al-Janabiya Street, which was put on hold for lack of knowledge of the perpetrator's identity, investigations concluded that the defendant along with others were involved in the incident, so an arrest and search warrant were issued against him. Flammable materials were found in his home, i.e. yellow and black powders, which proved to contain nitrocellulose and a chlorate mixture, and when asked confronted, he confessed to possessing the materials.
Regarding the Public Prosecution's investigations, the Interior Ministry officer told the court that following the incident, his investigations based on his secret sources, reached to the conclusion that the accused and others took part, so he took permission from the Public Prosecution to search his residence and thus a mixture of explosive materials were found there.
The defendant confessed that his friend gave him empty canisters and that he himself collects empty tear gas canisters.
The court said in its ruling that the convicted person did not accept the first instance verdict, so he appealed on October 30, 2017.
