Bahrain Mirror:  The Bahraini Court of Appeal upheld on Tuesday (March 27, 2018) a ruling sentencing photographer Sayed Ahmed Al-Mousawi to ten years in prison, also stripping him of his citizenship, according to the Bahrain Press Association.

The sentence issued against Al-Mousawi is appealable before the Court of Cassation, whose rulings are considered to be assertory.

A number of human rights organizations, mainly Reporters Without Borders, have called on the Bahraini judiciary to back down on the decision, stressing that the sentence was "arbitrary" and due to his "coverage of pro-democracy demonstrations."

On November 22, 2015, a first instance court sentenced Al-Mousawi to 10 years in prison and ordered his nationality be revoked.

It is worth noting that Al-Mousawi was arrested at his home in Al-Diraz on February 10, 2014, where his cameras and other electronic devices were confiscated. His trial; however, did not begin until 10 months after his arrest. Al-Mousawi later revealed to his family that he was tortured during detention.
