BCCI Rejects Bill Granting Females who Aborted or Gave Birth to Dead Baby Maternity Leave

Bahrain Mirror: The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) has rejected a bill presented by a number of MPs that aims at granting female employees working in private sectors paid leave in case of abortion or giving birth to a dead baby.

BCCI said that the proposal will be a burden on employers and will expose them to huge material losses and reluctance of employers to hire women in the private sector.

The Supreme Council for Women, Bahrain Women Union and the General Federation of Workers Trade Unions in Bahrain supported the motion. The bill aims at aims at granting female employees working in private sectors paid leave for 60 days in case of abortion or giving birth to a dead baby and prevents making her work within the 40 days following the abortion of giving birth a dead baby. The bill stipulates that the maternity leave provisions shall be applied on the women who aborted or gave birth to dead baby.
