Bahrain Mirror: The "Gulf Business" magazine said that the annual salary survey it has recently conducted on Gulf States showed that the average salary in Bahrain for 2017 was 25% lower than the previous year.
The average monthly salary in Bahrain, according to the survey, reached $7,867 (2.935 BD).
Bahrain surpassed Kuwait in this index and Oman with a slight difference. However, it came after Emirates and Saudi Arabia that came in the first rank.
Bahrain was found to be the best paying country among the 5 Gulf States covered by the survey (excluding Qatar) for the head teacher/principal position at $11,130. The magazine considered that Bahrain's advance on some other Gulf States with this wide variance may have been a reflection of the different benefits paid outside of salary in each country.
The island kingdom was also the second best paying country for the hotel general manager position at $14,240, following Kuwait's $15,290.
More broadly though, Bahrain appears to be going through a somewhat slump, with labour ministry statistics showing the country's workforce decreased for the first time in five years in 2017.
This reflects a slump in recent years linked to lower oil prices, with the country deemed among the most vulnerable in the Middle East to crude market movements due to the size of its fiscal deficit.
