Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain Aluminum Company (Alba) reported a net gain of BD 33.9 million in the first quarter of 2018 compared to BD 25.6 million during the same period in 2017, an increase of 32% year-over-year.
The company said it had a good performance on terms of revenues and profit during the first quarter of 2018, driven mainly by a 17% year-on-year increase in the London Metal Exchange.
Alba's sales grew 16% year-on-year to BD 221.3 million compared to BD 190.4 million in the first quarter of 2017.
While the company seeks to get exemption from the US decision that imposes tariffs on aluminum and steel, officials at Alba shrug off the impact of this decision, noting that the American consumer is the one to bear the burden of these fees.
