Bahrain Mirror: News websites have reported that the head of the Human Rights Subcommittee at the European Parliament, Antonio Panzeri, said Bahrain refused to receive the committee's delegation to assess the human rights situation there.
"I regret to inform you that the Kingdom of Bahrain has refused our, a delegation of the European Parliament, request to visit" Panzeri said at a meeting at the European Parliament on Thursday (April 26, 2018).
The Gulf state denied access to the delegation after it had requested to visit to review its human rights record, Antonio Panzeri revealed. That is after a similar delegation visited Qatar a few weeks ago and met a number of people affected by the embargo imposed on it by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt since June 5 of last year.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Human Rights Committee in Qatar, Ali Bin Smeikh Al-Marri, who spoke about the repercussions of the siege and the damage caused to citizens and residents who were banned from traveling, receiving education and performing Hajj and Umrah freely, in addition to their financial losses as a result of the embargo.
