Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain's General Organization for Social Insurance said that the amendments referred to the House of Representatives aim at directing pension and insurance benefits to the beneficiaries, based on decisions issued by the Supreme Council of the Military Fund and the Board of Directors of the General Organization for Social Insurance.
The Organization and the Military Pension Fund said that "the amendments that were referred to the legislative authority on the government pension laws and social insurance, in addition to military retirement, came in line with the financial, social and legal developments affecting the pension and insurance funds, which requires the adoption of some amendments that will support the sustainability of pension and insurance funds in order to face current and future challenges."
The Organization further explained that "what was said about the draft social insurance law and what is being circulated on websites has been based on inaccurate information, for the amendments are aimed primarily at preserving the rights of participants an insureds, by directing pension and insurance benefits to the beneficiaries, based on decision issued by the Supreme Council of the Military Fund and the Board of Directors of the General Organization for Social Insurance, which consists of all parties concerned with pension and insurance affairs.
"The amendments also include the supervision of the recommendations and resolutions issued by the Board of Directors to ensure that they do not depart from the general policy of the State or affect the financial conditions of the pension and insurance funds. The amendments also reinforce the principle of social solidarity as the basic pillar of pension and insurance laws through the equitable use of pension benefits by all participants without discrimination."
"The amendments referred to the legislative authority will not apply to pensions paid before they are put into effect," the Organization noted.
