Bahrain Mirror: Bahraini Prime Minister Khalifa bin Salman commissioned the Land Survey and Registration Department in coordination with the relevant authorities to make restrictions with regard to the sale of real estate in Muharraq, Qalali and Zallaq in order to avoid affecting the demographic structure in the country.
An official statement issued by the Council of Ministers said that the Prime Minister called for setting restrictions in the "neighborhoods of Muharraq, Qalali and Zallaq and in a number of other villages and cities to ensure that sales do not affect the demographic of the population and the societal and historical specificity of these neighborhoods, villages and cities, while also not being detrimental to the investment process."
Khalifa Bin Salman assigned the Land Survey and Registration Department in coordination with the concerned authorities and the competent authorities with the task of taking all necessary measures.
For years, the Bahraini authorities have prevented Shi'a citizens from owning real estate in Muharraq District, specifically in city neighborhoods.
