Appeals Court Postpones Case of Defendants Accused of Escaping Jaw Prison and Killing Office Al-Hammadi to Jan. 28

Bahrain Mirror: The First High Appeals court postponed considering the appeals of 36 suspects accused of killing officer Hisham Al-Hammadi in his farm in Bilad Al-Qadeem and escaping "Jaw Prison", which led to the death of police Abdulsalam Saif Al-Yafei, to January 28, to issue its ruling.
A first-instance court had issued, unanimously, death sentences against the suspects accused in the murder of officer Hisham Al-Hammadi in Bilad Al-Qadeem and police Abdulsalam Saif Al-Yafei durinf the attack on Jaw Prison building and ordered their citizenship revocation.
The court had also sentenced 19 suspects to life term and 17 others to 15 years in jail, including a Gulf national man. It handed down 10-year jail term to 9 convicts and 5-year jail to other 2. The court revoked the citizenships of all the defendants, except for the Gulf national.
The court sentenced 9 others to 5 years in jail, including 4 women. Meanwhile, it acquitted 2 suspects of all the charges brought against them. Besides, it acquitted 9 suspects of charge of joining a terrorist group, and ordered the confiscation of arms, ammunitions and explosives.
The authorities accuse the suspects of:
- Seizing arms and explosives inside a cruiser on shore in Al-Nabih Saleh and seizing a storage depot for explosives, weapons and ammunition in Sitra area on 1/12/201
- Attacking Reformation and Rehabilitation Center in Jaw Prison and allowing number of convicts in terrorist crime to escape the prison, which led to the death of a policeman and inuring of others, as well as stealing weapons on 1/1/2017.
- Targeting one of the police patrols with gunfire, which led to the injuring of a policeman in Bani Jamra on 14/1/2017.
- Killing an officer in Bilad Al-Qadeem on 28/1/2017.
- Attempting to flee the country, resisting policemen by shooting against them, which led to the death of 3 prisoners (martyr Rida Al-Ghasra and his companions) on 9/2/2017.
