BCHR: 32 Death Sentences since 2011

Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) condemned the Bahraini judiciary's insistence on resorting to death penalty, dubbing it "inhumane punishment".
According to a statement issued by the center on Tuesday (November 13, 2018) "the death sentences has reached 32 since 2011, 3 of which were executed, 7 were commuted to life term and 2 were reconsidered. All of these rulings resulted from unfair trials that don't comply with fair trial guarantees."
BCHR called on the Government of Bahrain to "cancel the sentences and to sign and accede to the Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights on the abolition of the death penalty."
The center pointed out that "the death sentences have overused death sentences in the recent years, especially in cases related to freedom of opinion and expression and practice of political rights." It added that the Bahraini legislation and laws contain 81 articles that stipulate death penalty and that the Bahraini legislator does not take into consideration the international laws and principles regarding limiting the use of death penalty.
BCHR urged the Government of Bahrain to refrain from implementing the death penalty and abolish it and invited it to accede to the Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
