Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): Samuel Hanryon, the press relations manager of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), posted a tweet on his personal Twitter account saying that the Paris municipality and Mayor Anne Hidalgo had announced their solidarity with human rights defender Nabeel Rajab, days before his trial on December 31.
He confirmed that the municipality will put a picture of Rajab in front of its building and published a statement entitled "The Municipality of Paris announces its support for its honorary citizen Nabeel Rajab," also calling for his release.
"There is a special responsibility our city should take: the one entrusted to it by history, so we have to relentlessly defend human rights wherever they are violated," said Patrick Klugman, assistant mayor for public relations and the Francophonie.
Klugman stressed that "this struggle is at the heart of Paris' identity and through this action [support for Nabeel Rajab], we reaffirm our support for the steps taken by the International Federation to allow reconsideration of the sentences issued against Nabeel Rajab, and releasing him."
It is noteworthy that the Paris City Council had declared Nabeel Rajab a honorary citizen on June 6 in support of his struggle for freedom, democracy and human rights.
