Bahrain Mirror: The head of the endocrine unit at Salmaniya Medical Complex, Dr. Hussein Taha, said that according to the World Health Organization (WHO), the prevalence rate of diabetes in the Kingdom of Bahrain amounted 16%, equivalent to 200,000 people diagnosed with the disease in the country, noting that it's a very high rate. He further pointed out that the high incidence of diabetes is a global phenomenon, as statistics have shown that 422 million people in all countries around the world suffer from the disease.

Taha went on to say that diabetes, according to official WHO statistics, is also one of the causes of death, with the global mortality rate due to this disease amounting to 5 million annually, adding that this is why there is currently an international interest in the importance of the dissemination of modern testing in diagnosis, treatment and prevention. He further stated that due to this the Bahrain Diabetes and Endocrinology Conference holds significance, as many experiences, modern methods of diagnosis and treatment are presented, benefiting general and specialized medicine, in addition to the pharmaceutical, nursing sector as well as university students.
