Bahrain Mirror: Mass resignations of pilots have caused canceling a number of Gulf air flights since Tuesday evening to Wednesday morning (February 27, 2019), a local newspaper said.

The newspaper attributed its information to unnamed trade union sources.

The sources were quoted as saying that several of the company's flights were cancelled due to sudden resignations of pilots in protest against increasing their working hours.

It said that witnesses confirmed that hundreds of passengers were stranded at airports after Gulf Air flights were cancelled.

Hundreds of passengers were left stranded at Bahrain International Airport (BIA) yesterday after their flights were cancelled. Five inbound and outbound Gulf Air flights were scrapped reportedly due to non-availability of pilots, the GDN has learned.

The company issued a statement later apologizing for the cancellation of a number of its flights, stressing that its staff works around the clock to reschedule flights to their normal format. 

It stated that less than 2% of its flights were cancelled in February and 1% of its 0.5 million passengers in February were affected by the cancellation of these flights, noting that these affected passengers were transported on alternative flights to Gulf Air or other air carriers to ensure their arrival at their final destinations.

Gulf Air denied what is being circulated on media outlets, stressing that passengers were not neglected, as the Gulf Air team was keen to transport all passengers on alternative flights on the same day of their travel.
