Sheraton Bahrain Hotel to Close for 2 Years, Lay off its Employees

Bahrain Mirror: Sheraton Bahrain Hotel is to close and lay off all its employees.
Information from staff said that the 33-year-old hotel, which is located in the center of Manama, has decided to close and lay off its employees and staff.
In this context, Hotelier Middle East website, which is interested in covering the hotel activity in the region, said that the hotel will be closed until 2021.
It indicated that the hotel that features 256 rooms and suites will undergo complete renovation that reportedly costs around $40million.
Spokesperson for the hotel said that "the renovation will start on October 1, 2019. The entire property including guest rooms, conferences, meetings spaces, recreation facilities and public areas will be renovated."
"The project is expected to be completed by 2021 and will require the full closure of the hotel," he added.
The spokesperson did not mention the fate of the staff during the planned renovation period, however, hotel staff spoke of their dismissal.
The closure coincides with a period of economic downturn in the country, with the increasing warnings of a major global economic crisis in 2020.
