Nebeel’s Wife: Nabeel Stipped of his Clothes and Left in a Cell with Dead Animals

Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): Mrs. Summaya Rajab wife of Human Rights Defender Nabeel Rajab revealed that she had visited Nabeel today in Jow Prison. It was the first visit in 3 weeks.
She emphasized that Nabeel was mistreated and humiliated through repeated body frisking. She said that they stripped him of all his clothes during the inspection, and they would leave him with a cover around his waist and covering his lower parts. Then he would be subjected to a humiliating body inspection.
He was transferred to a solitary cell on the day he was sentenced to three years of imprisonment, which explained the intention of revenge. She added that the atmosphere of the cell felt that he would undergo sessions of brutal torture.
In that cell he was forced to wear a cover around the waist that covered that lower parts, then he was forced to stand up and sit down for 40 times despite his suffering of a slipped disc. He asked for his back support belt after the slipped disc pain returned. Security forces had beaten him on his back several times prior to that.
Mrs. Rajab said Nabeel did not know how many days he had spent in that cell as he did not recognize day from night. The cell was full of filth. There was a dead cat in the cell.
She said Nabeel does eat the food they give to him as he does not trust them. He eats cornflakes and canned food. He is only allowed to buy stuff from the prison canteen only once a week and only allowed 6 Liters of water every week though he suffers kidney and gall bladder stones.
She said it was the first time since two months he had eaten cooked food, as they managed to pass him a sandwich, but sugar was not allowed.
The prison administration refused to hand him over a shaving machine she brought him after they had refused allowing shaving razors to him. He is deprived of shaving so that he looks disheveled. It is one of the humiliation measures.
The prison administration forces him to use tiny slippers that he uses everywhere even in the courtroom. He is only allowed two pieces of clothes and two pieces of underwear.
She said despite all of that Nabeel is in high spirits and he always points the steadfastness gesture, “They try to break his will and steadfastness but that’s out of their reach”. She says she is updating the rights groups and the Red Cross.
Mrs Rajab said police prevented them their right of sitting with Nabeel for an hour, they stayed with him for 25 minutes only. They protested adamantly about it which led the officers to yell at them and forced them to leave.
The police justified that it was late and they needed to go to their children. She considered that as blackmailing as Nabeel had not seen his children for 3 weeks not only for a day, they were wasting the visit time in arguing.
Nabeel is still secluded from the other political prisoners where he is in a cell with 3 to 4 criminal prisoners.
She said she sent a letter through her son Adam to the Head of Jow Prison Mr. Mohammed Al-Hussaini demanding transferring Nabeel to be with the political prisoners, however, he responded flippantly that was the best they could offer to Nabeel and directed them to complain to the Legal Affairs Department.
Mrs. Rajab said that the lawyers met with the Prison Director for the same purpose who responded insolently “Just forget about it”. She said she had met with the Al-Hussaini for the same to discuss the same topic when he claimed that it was not a seclusion prison as he was convicted of three months only, and it was illegal to put him with the other prisoners, however Nabeel is sentenced to three years now but still in the seclusion until now without any explanation.
