Bahrain Mirror: Al-Wefaq Deputy Secretary General, Sheikh Hussein Al-Daihi, said that "Bahrain expresses its full solidarity with the Lebanese people," after the earthquake caused by the Beirut Port explosion that occurred on Tuesday evening, August 4, 2020.
A massive explosion took place at the port in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, leaving hundreds of deaths and about 4000 injured. The explosion sent shockwaves across the city, causing widespread damage even on the outskirts of the capital.
Officials expect the death toll to rise as rescue teams search the rubble for survivors and victims.
President Michel Aoun said 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate, used in fertilisers and bombs, had been stored for six years at the port without safety measures, after it was seized.
Aoun called on the Cabinet to hold an exceptional meeting on Wednesday and stressed the necessity to announce a two-week state of emergency in Beirut.
