Bahrain Mirror: The Secretary-General of the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions (GFBTU) Abdulqadir Al-Shihabi said that the union has finished registering unemployed and noticed that there are 15,000 unemployed in Bahrain. He said that the unemployment rate is 10% and not 4%, as the Labor Minister states, adding that 70% of the unemployed don't receive unemployment allowance.
In a press conference he convened on Tuesday (December 8, 2020), the GFBTU Secretary-General said "we sent a document that contains names of 11,000 unemployed to the PM office."
Al-Shihabi revealed that the national project to register unemployed has so far registered 15,000 unemployed in Bahrain.
He stressed that unemployment rate in Bahrain has reached 10% and that the union has "adopted this percentage and will not accept any lower percentage," in an implicit reference to the figures of the Labor Ministry, which insists that the percentage is 4% and below.
