Bahrain Mirror: 29 MPs in the British House of Commons signed a motion to express solidarity with detained academic Abduljalil Al-Singace, who is on hunger strike in the regime's prisons. The motion demanded the release of prisoners of conscience and imposition of Magnitsky Act Sanctions on those responsible for his unlawful imprisonment.
The motion published on the House of Commons website stated that "this House is deeply concerned by the ongoing hunger strike of 59-year-old human rights defender and academic Dr. Abduljalil Al-Singace in Bahrain."
It added that the signatories are concerned that "His hunger strike began on 8 July 2021 and has exceeded 100 days. Dr. Al-Singace has been hospitalized since 18 July 2021 and has lost at least 20kg."
"Al-Singace is protesting Jaw Prison authorities' ill-treatment and confiscation of four years' worth of his apolitical research."
The signatories "condemn Dr. Al-Singace's torture in 2011 by Bahraini officials, as documented by the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry."
They also condemned that "Dr. Al-Singace has spent over a decade unjustly imprisoned, throughout which mistreatment and medical negligence against him has been reported by UN experts"
The motion indicated the Bahraini government is ignoring all steps that call for Al-Signace's release, like calls from UN experts, the EU Parliament, 101 academics and 77 cross-party UK parliamentarians, trade unions, lawyers and rights groups.
The MPS called upon "the Bahraini Government to urgently secure the return of Dr. Al-Singace's research, impose Magnitsky Act Sanctions on those responsible for his unlawful imprisonment; and to call for his immediate and unconditional release."
They further called upon the Government to urge for the release of all political prisoners in Bahrain, including Hassan Mushaima, Sheikh Ali Salman, Abdulhadi Al-Khawaja and Ali Al-Hajee.
