Bahrain Mirror: Salam for Democracy and Human Rights said that "Despite Bahrain's ratification in 2006 of civil and political rights, including the right to protest and peaceful assembly, local legislation restricts this right and contradicts international law."

The human rights group reiterated, in a post on the formerly Twitter "X" platform on Sunday, April 28, 2024, that "Bahrain witnesses suppression of protests by security agencies, and the judiciary issues prison sentences, as punitive measures are applied in prisons including juvenile detention," adding that "the administration of the University of Bahrain threatened students with punitive measures if they organized any protests."

While emphasizing the "necessity of reforming local legislation to guarantee the right to protest and peaceful assembly," SALAM called for "lifting restrictions and amending restrictive legislation on the right to peaceful assembly, allowing the Special Rapporteur on the right to peaceful assembly and association to visit Bahrain, implementing the recommendations of the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review for 2022, including those related to the right to peaceful assembly."
