Bahrain Mirror: Bahraini forces cracked down on an open-ended sit-in initiated by the families of political prisoners in front of the Jaw Central Prison on Thursday, May 2, 2024, demanding the immediate release of all political prisoners.
During their sit-in, families displayed pictures of their imprisoned sons and held banners with slogans calling for their release. "We demand the release of prisoners" and "We demand a general amnesty" were among the slogans the families chanted, referring to the recent royal pardon that did not include hundreds of remaining political prisoners.
Regime forces arrested a number of protesters and later released them.
The sit-in coincided with protests initiated by inmates in Jaw Prison demanding their immediate release.
In response to the authorities crackdown on peaceful protestors, Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain strongly condemned, in a statement on the formerly Twitter "X" platform on Thursday, "the regime forces' assault on the families of political prisoners peacefully demonstrating in support of their sons and the arrest of several, including two women."
