Bahrain’s King will Issue a Royal Decree Pardoning a Number of Inmates for “Humanitarian Reasons”

Manama- BNA: The Public Prosecutor Dr. Ali bin Fadhl Al-Bouainain announced that His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa will issue a Royal Decree pardoning a number of inmates for humanitarian reasons.
He highlighted in a statement that, "The Public Prosecution, along with the Office of the Ombudsman, conducted a comprehensive review of inmates, and in coordination with the National Institution for Human Rights, identified inmates meeting conditions based on a number of relevant humanitarian categories.
Accordingly, the Public Prosecution has prepared a recommended list of inmates to be considered for the Royal Pardon."
"The review has taken into consideration a number of categories, including women, those under the age of eighteen, those with special medical needs and conditions, those who have shown commitment and responsiveness to social and drug rehabilitation programmes, and those who have been sentenced for less than three years," he continued
He added, "The review covered cases in which a final verdict has been issued and where the inmate has served no less than half of the term."
"Subsequently, the Public Prosecution has now completed its review of inmates that fulfill the necessary criteria and raised a recommendation in preparation for the Royal Pardon," he indicated.
