Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini Akhbar Al-Khaleej newspaper, which is close to Prime Minister Khalifa Bin Salman Al-Khalifa, reported that restaurant prices in Bahrain began to rise even before implementing the decision to lift subsidies on meat products, as it is supposed to come into effect by the beginning of next month, September 2015.

The newspaper added that some prices of restaurant meals containing meat increased by 50%, wondering why the Consumer Protection Directorate hasn't yet assumed its role "to monitor violations and put an end to the greed of restaurant owners, especially that prices are rising hysterically in short periods of time."

According to Akhbar Al-Khaleej, the prices of meat products are expected to rise by 250% for each kilogram after the decision of lifting subsidies on meat comes into effect. This comes after over 30 years of a stable 1 dinar price for every kilogram of lamb meat and 1 dinar and 200 fils for every kilogram of cow meat.
