UN Group Says Al-Wefaq’s Secretary-General Arbitrarily Detained

Bahrain Mirror: The United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention stressed that the Secretary-General of Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, Sheikh Ali Salman, is arbitrarily imprisoned under the category of total or partial non-observance of the international norms relating to the right to a fair trial, established in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and in the relevant international instruments.
The group issued 11 urgent appeals to Bahrain, including this one in which it stressed that the imprisonment of Al-Wefaq's Secretary-General is arbitrary.
In its report to be discussed during the 30th session of the UN Human Rights Council that commenced on Monday (September 14, 2015), the statistics of the working group showed that Bahrain received 11 urgent appeals out of 136 sent to 48 governments, making it the government that received the second most urgent appeals.
The Group also highlighted in the report that it requested "a follow-up visit" to Bahrain.
