Bahrain Mirror: Attorney General Ali Bin Fadhul Al-Buainain responded to the Human Rights Watch (HRW) report on torture in Bahrain, particularly HRW criticism raised against the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), affiliated to the Public Prosecution and established in 2012 to investigate into the violations committed by the security bodies.

"I am not naming any organization or society. However, what I am saying is that anyone can talk, and let them say whatever they want, for the numbers and facts speak for themselves and about the reality of the work accomplished by the SIU. There is no doubt that the effort made by the SIU is very obvious in a number of the investigated cases and those referred to courts. The courts issued their verdicts in a number of these cases. Some of those who committed torture or maltreatment crimes are now behind bars serving prison terms ranging between months and years," Al-Buainain said.

"Establishing this unit was not for the purpose of pleasing any party; it was established for a specific need or problem found in any society. However, Bahrain had enough courage to establish such a unit and allow it to perform its duties. All what we care for is satisfying the Almighty God and our consciences and to implement the law rather than satisfy any party. We believe that time will make people know who is honest and who has other aims."
