SIU Receives 14 Torture & Abuse Complaints in November

Bahrain Mirror: Member of the Bahraini Public Prosecution's Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Ibrahim Al-Kawari said that the unit has received 14 complaints during November, nine of which were related to claims of ill-treatment, while four others were linked to torture and another regarding the use of excessive force by policemen. He further stated that the SIU has launched investigations into these cases.
Concerning the SIU's accomplishments during November as well in the investigated cases, he said that it listened to 67 testimonies, interrogated 28 suspects and questioned 31 suspects from the security forces. It also referred 9 of the complainants to a forensic doctor to examine them. Meanwhile, it referred two of the complainants to a psychiatrist.
The SIU has concluded its investigations into three separate cases of abuse by beatings on part of police officers, and ordered referring four suspects from the general security forces to court and punishing them according to articles 75/4, 107/1 and 339/1/2 of the penal code.
