Bahrain Mirror: Head of the monitoring and documentation unit at the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR), Inas Aoun, said that 22 citizens were arrested in the past week (October 19-25, 2016), among which was a child not exceeding 18 years of age.

Aoun confirmed that half the detainees were arbitrarily arrested "through breaking into their houses at dawn without any arrest warrants, which is considered a violation of international conventions on political rights.

Moreover, she pointed out that the center witnessed 24 peaceful protests held in 17 areas across Bahrain, three of which were subjected to crackdown by government forces. Aoun further called on the authorities to stop the repression of general freedoms and the targeting of citizens based on their religious and political opinions and beliefs.

On the judicial level, Aoun said that Bahraini courts ruled against 15 citizens sentences amounting to a total of 140 years of imprisonment in 6 different cases. These cases are linked to the ongoing popular movement in Bahrain since the outbreak of the popular uprising in 2011. She further noted that 3 of the defendants in the aforementioned cases were sentenced to life in prison.
