Bahrain Mirror: Deputy Chair of the Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission, Masouma Abdul Rasoul, claimed that the revocation of citizenships occur in accordance with law. She indicated that the law to protect society from terrorist acts stipulates that the judge rules the revocation of citizenship in some crimes stated in the Law of Terrorism. She also indicated that if anyone had grievances, then the door of the judiciary is open to all.

Her remarks came during the session held Monday (April 24, 2017) in Geneva to present the Bahraini delegation's responses to inquiries by the Committee Against Torture (CAT) in Geneva last Friday (April 21, 2017). This came in the framework of discussing the second and third national periodic reports on Implementation of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.

In response to the issue of 28-day detention of terrorism suspects, Abdul Rasoul said that the law applies to those who show sufficient evidence of committing the crime by law, before the period to refer him to the Public Prosecution ends.

Extending the period to 28 days, according to her, is due to the dangerous and complex nature of the terrorism crimes, which takes longer time than normal crimes.

Regarding the legislative amendment related to the mandate of military courts, Deputy Chair of the Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission said, "The amendment allows trying illegitimate fighter militias that commit crimes against our nature. As a result, the military judiciary law was amended to look into this crime, which is deliberately committed by an individual who is not subject to the provisions of this law, whether as a perpetrator or a partner, inside or outside Bahrain."

Abdul Rasoul denied what the CAT experts said that the crime became unregulated by means of the amendment, and that referring cases to the military judiciary only occur exceptionally and with a decision by the Public Prosecutor.
