Bahrain Mirror: Eyewitnesses said that the security authorities lifted the siege imposed on Diraz village, hometown of spiritual leader of Shia majority Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim, after about 25 months of putting barriers and blocking the entrances.
The authorities have imposed a siege on Diraz, blocked its entrances and prevented non residents from entering the village, since they revoked Sheikh Qassim's citizenship in June 2016.
On July 9, Ayatollah Qassim left to the British capital, London, to receive treatment after his health deteriorated, as he was under house arrest since May 2017.
The Bahraini king allowed Sheikh Isa to receive treatment abroad and ordered to issue him a passport valid for one year only.
After Sheikh Qassim left on July 9, the security authorities started removing the checkpoints deployed around his house. Meanwhile, the barriers and checkpoints at the village entrances were also removed today (Wednesday, July 11, 2018).
