Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain accused the Republic of Iran of standing behind 40,000 emails aimed at negatively impacting the elections held yesterday in the island kingdom.

The Director General of the Public Directorate for Combating Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security said that as a continuation of what was announced yesterday morning regarding truth behind the messages circulated and received by citizens, claiming that their names were deleted from the election lists, and as part of the follow up of the news circulated on social media networking sites, a number of telephone numbers have been monitored, which were being used to broadcast these fabricated messages, noting that the research and investigations resulted in the identification of those responsible for these messages.

He further pointed out that the investigations indicated a number of the perpetrators of these crimes were located in Bahrain and others in Iran, claiming that they hacked a number of servers in order to carry out this operation. Legal action is being taken against them and they are being referred to the Public Prosecution, he added.

He concluded by saying that the monitoring and follow-up indicated that Iran is the source of the 40,000 emails, aimed at adversely affecting the electoral process.
