Bahrain Mirror: The Chief Executive Officer of the Supreme Council for the Environment (SCE), Mohammed Mubarak bin Dainah, said that the step following the cessation of the use of non-biodegradable plastic bags, scheduled to start on the 21st of this month, will be banning the use of non-biodegradable black garbage bags, and then banning the use of plastic plates, cups and cutlery, noting that here is a time plan to stop the use of those plastic items.

In a press statement, he said that the trash bags distributed by the municipalities amount to 34,500,000 garbage bags per year, noting that this huge number is resulting in significant environmental damage. Regarding the factories producing these plastic products, he said that Bahrain has 24 factories that manufacture these plastics, adding that these factories will not be affected by such decisions, because they previously manufactured biodegradable plastics, and therefore have no problem in producing those materials again.

He further pointed out that the Supreme Council will set a deadline for anyone who has a stockpile of plastic bags until the depletion of those quantities, will prevent the import of these bags from abroad and will gradually reduce the quantities of these bags until they are completely emptied from the Bahraini markets.
