Bahrain Mirror: Lawyer Abdullah Hashem said that the Public Prosecution referred him to the fifth minor court on charges of "deliberately broadcasting false news knowing that it would harm national security and public order." Hasem's charge is based on 8 tweets he published about the community affairs.
It is believed that Hashem's trial comes following a Twitter campaign he launched last year in order to call to halt construction of a complex on one of Arad's region lands, after it was converted into the property of two members of the ruling family, including the son of Royal Court Minister Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa.
In May 2019, the public prosecution decided to suspend Lawyer Hashem for a week pending investigation after he was charged with broadcasting false news and abusing social media outlets.
The Public Prosecution said that it had received a report from the Anti-Cybercrime Directorate indicating that a social media user had posted false and baseless news that may cause harm to public order on his personal account. The Public Prosecution launched an investigation into the incident, and was informed about the news posted on the suspect's personal account. It found that the user had been posting similar inaccurate news for a long time on his account, and making comments that may cause instability across society, and question the authorities' performance and their ability to maintain security and protect society.
