Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): Informed sources confirmed to Bahrain Mirror the infection of more than 26 prisoners with Coronavirus. Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry announced the discovery of 3 positive cases only.
Families of detainees are very concerned at the health of their sons as some of them were not able to contact their sons since days.
Human rights sources affirm that the Jaw Prison administration is very confused and has no real potentials to deal with this epidemic, especially amid the unhealthy situation inside the prison. On Friday, the lunch meals were delayed and were not given to prisoners who remained hungry until night.
Bahrain is facing pressures from human rights organization due to conditions of the prisons which are overcrowded and suffer from deteriorating health facilities and lack of medical care.
The Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, which has been calling for the release of prisoners of conscience since the beginning of the pandemic, said the prisoners' health have been exhausted by years of torture and inhumane conditions.
The society held the regime fully responsible for what was happening inside prisons, with the epidemic beginning to destroy the bodies that have been exhausted by torture and by many years under inhuman conditions inside prisons.
"The narration of those associated with the security system in the country cannot be trusted. Why was the new visit request of the UN Special Rapporteur on torture not answered? I have no doubt that the Rapporteur on torture would have raised his concerns about poor health care in prisons while he listened to the statements of victims as they narrated how violating their right to receive appropriate treatment was an essential choice for interrogators," President of Bahrain Forum for Human Rights, Baqer Darwish, commented.
