Bahrain Mirror: Political prisoners Ali Isa Al Ithnaashar and Hussain Matar, held in the Dry Dock prison, announced on Monday, March 4, 2024, their two-week hunger strike in protest against being jointly isolated in a cell for a year, and the punishment of their fellow inmate Mohammad Al Qaffas by transferring him to a cell designated for foreign nationals since over a month.

Prisoner Ali Isa Al Ithnaashar confirmed in an audio recording that his blood sugar level has dropped to 1.7, while the prison administration delays transferring Al Qaffas from that cell to a cell designated for political prisoners.

Previously, younger prisoners in Building 17 at the Dry Dock prison had engaged in strikes due to the deliberate tightening by the Ministry of Interior on political prisoners in various ways, depriving them of their basic rights.

It is worth mentioning that the Bahraini government does not allow visits by special UN rapporteurs to the country's prisons, while human rights organizations and activists emphasize the worsening human rights crisis in the absence of oversight, exposing prisoners of conscience to further violations.
