Salam DHR issued a report entitled "The Lost Democracy: A Human Rights Vision on the Confiscation of Political Rights in Bahrain", which confirmed that "the government of Bahrain is violating its obligations under international conventions and its constitution through a series of arbitrary measures."

Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain said that young detainees face health and psychological risks due to the inhumane treatment they receive while continuing to be denied basic rights such as visits, food, clothing, and education, contrary to allegations of prison reform.

Chairman of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, Jim McGovern, said "the decision to deny Maryam Al-Khawaja and others entry and cancel the visit of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights delegation contradicts everything Foreign Minister Al-Zayani said about Bahrain's commitment to human rights when we met."
