The Third High Criminal Court ordered to suspend the execution of the 6-month prison term issued against prominent opposition leader and former Secretary-General of Wa'ad Ibrahim Shairf to 3 years, from the date of issuing the verdict.

Bahrain on Wednesday sentenced a liberal opposition figure to six months in jail for tweeting criticsm of Sudan's president who has been facing protests against his rule, rights groups said.

The deputy secretary general of Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, Sheikh Hussein Al-Daihi, said that "dissolving and uprooting Wa'd Society is neither new nor surprising to everyone who understands the mentality of the regime in Bahrain. The regime’s plan is eradication and crushing of anyone who says a word that bothers it.”

The European Union said that "The decision by the High Appeal Court of Bahrain of 26 October to uphold the Appeal Court ruling to dissolve the National Democratic Action Society (Waad) contravenes provisions on the freedoms of speech and association as enshrined in the Constitution of Bahrain and therefore risks further polarizing Bahrain's society."
